What a Summer this has been so far! One week it's hot and humid, and then the other week we're being tormented by thunderstorms, strong winds, and showers. It's such a treat every time the sun does come out, it makes me feel warmed to the core.
These days I've been taking it easy, spending my days tidying the house, working in the backyard, reading the latest Marian Keyes, baking cookies from this wonderful cookbook by Amber Rose, Love, Bake, Nourish, and washing baby clothes and my favorite new super soft muslin swaddles from Aden + Anais. Somehow, calm and quiet seem to suit me well at the moment.
We visited a colleague of my husband's the other day, who happens to be a very talented jewelry maker. She has a garden bursting with hydrangeas, apple trees, blackberries, and some very plump and ripe blackcurrants. Good and tasty! I got to pick some which I used in a delightfully fresh smoothie.
Minty Blackcurrant Smoothie
Juice of an orange
Juice of a grapefruit
Half a ripe banana
Handful of blackcurrants
A few raspberries
Some fresh mint leaves
Place all the ingredients in a blender and pulse a few times. Serve right away in a glass, and top off with an extra mint leaf. If the smoothie is too tart for you, you might want to add some raw honey or agave nectar.
